We have not made a point of following the comments posted by Howard Dean's enthusiasts' on the Dean campaign's official site, Blog for America. However, we have taken a look at the site to check the reaction to Governor Dean's withdrawal from active campaigning yesterday. Governor Dean's announcement appears to have prompted expressions of bitter disappointment that suggest the possible nontranferability of the Deaniacs' support to the remaining viable candidates.

If these comments are genuine and representative, they may be indicative of the disunity of the Democratic base and the persistence of the Nader threat. I think that the Democratic base will unite around its maniacal hatred of President Bush, and I have recently expressed doubt about the persistence of the Nader phenomenon in my review of Michah Sifry's new book on third-party politics.

The following is a compendium of comments posted on the Dean campaign site. WARNING: The level of vulgarity is high:

had a nightmare last night. It was a commercial that said, "Health insurance premiums have gone up 800% because of malpractice lawyers like John Edwards waging frivilous law suits against good doctors. When doctors have to pay $40 million dollars, those costs are passed on to you, the average american trying to make ends meet. John Edwards wants you to think he's one of the little guys -- and then it cut to cut after cut of JE saying, "My daddy worked in a mill" -- Since when does the little guy make $40 million dollars on the backs of Americans?

Alex Polier's father had it correct the first time: Kerry is a "sleazeball." I will never, ever vote for Kerry. I will not vote for Edwards. And I have voted for the Democratic candidate in every election since I could vote.

If Dean endorses either of those corrupt men, Dean does not speak for me.
Moreover, Dean will prove himself to be as corrupt as they are. I will go Green--forever. So will my money.
