We have not made a point of following the comments posted by Howard Dean's enthusiasts' on the Dean campaign's official site, Blog for America. However, we have taken a look at the site to check the reaction to Governor Dean's withdrawal from active campaigning yesterday. Governor Dean's announcement appears to have prompted expressions of bitter disappointment that suggest the possible nontranferability of the Deaniacs' support to the remaining viable candidates.
If these comments are genuine and representative, they may be indicative of the disunity of the Democratic base and the persistence of the Nader threat. I think that the Democratic base will unite around its maniacal hatred of President Bush, and I have recently expressed doubt about the persistence of the Nader phenomenon in my review of Michah Sifry's new book on third-party politics.
The following is a compendium of comments posted on the Dean campaign site. WARNING: The level of vulgarity is high:
had a nightmare last night. It was a commercial that said, "Health insurance premiums have gone up 800% because of malpractice lawyers like John Edwards waging frivilous law suits against good doctors. When doctors have to pay $40 million dollars, those costs are passed on to you, the average american trying to make ends meet. John Edwards wants you to think he's one of the little guys -- and then it cut to cut after cut of JE saying, "My daddy worked in a mill" -- Since when does the little guy make $40 million dollars on the backs of Americans?
I awoke shaking.

Alex Polier's father had it correct the first time: Kerry is a "sleazeball." I will never, ever vote for Kerry. I will not vote for Edwards. And I have voted for the Democratic candidate in every election since I could vote.
If Dean endorses either of those corrupt men, Dean does not speak for me.
Moreover, Dean will prove himself to be as corrupt as they are. I will go Green--forever. So will my money.

If Kerry and Bush are the same, and Kerry wins, we get stuck with him for maybe 8 years! If Bush wins we have a chance in 08!
KERRY CAN'T WIN! AT ALL COST!
Even if that means BUSH!

I suppose that is the silver lining: a Bush win in 2004 opens up the way for Dean 2008 -- and no incumbent!

I agree with Seattle...there is no way we could hold Kerry "accountable." Kerry is such a lying sleaze that he can never be held accountable. Kerry can only be defeated.
I will now work to save our nation from both Bush and Kerry.

I would also like to say that if Kerry wins the nomination, I will not be voting for him in the general election. I think he is one of the most corrupt politicians ever. He makes my skin crawl.

Hey Robert Oler, Grossman, and all you other unprincipled OPPORTUNISTS -
F*#K YOU!!!!
We think for ourselves! And we support those that support us. Your man Kerry
DOES NOT fit that bill.
Go ahead and kiss Kerry's skinny ass. But don't expect us to.

A vote for Kerry is a vote for a candidate and a campaign that personallyand deeply hates us. It would be schizophrenic to cast a vote for an establishment that despises our existence. First the push polling in Iowa, then the Osama TV ad, and now this.

I will support you, Governor Dean, but I will never support either John Kerry or John Edwards. They are spineless opportunists who have shown atrocious judgement with respect to the most important decisions a president will ever make - decisions about war and peace. Electing either one of them will change absolutely nothing.

Forget about Edwards and Kerry! They are both so pathetic. Two Borg drones without spine. Neither will be able to take on Bush in fall.

Go Nader!!!
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THAT KERRY, EDWARDS, THE DNC, OR ANY OF THOSE OTHER SPINELESS, SOULLESS, CONVICTION-LESS, PIECES OF TRASH WILL EVER GET A DIME OF MY MONEY, AN OUNCE OF MY SUPPORT, OR A CONSIDERATION OF MY VOTE.
Plus, Bush will eat either of the 2 remaining candidates alive - they have no record or a horrible record and are just hot air.
Today, we saw W secure 4 more years for himself.
To quote Robert Byrd - "Today, I weep for my country..."

Vote for an establishment democrat? no way! I will hold my nose and vote for Bush! The DNC needed my swing vote. It is too bad that they are backing the
wrong man. I guess that is time to open my wallet and give my attention to Dubya.

and I will *never* donate money or time to a campaign that worked to destroy what my husband and I worked so hard to help create.
And, unfortunately, now I know just how filthy this process really is. I know understand where the people who voted for Nader were coming from.

Thank you and Good Night!
Vote BUSH in 04 and then Dean has a chance to run again in 08.

I won't support John Edwards because he doesn't stand for equal protection for gay and lesbian Americans.
I won't support John Kerry because his support for gay and lesbian Americans changes with the political winds.
