AP Retracts "Boo" Story; Left Not Convinced
We reported at length last night and this morning on the AP's false story to the effect that a Republican crowd at a Bush rally in West Allis, Wisconsin, booed Bill Clinton when the President said he had just learned that Clinton had been hospitalized. The AP report added ominously that "Bush did nothing to stop them."
At around 9:30 this morning, the AP issued a retraction:
This is a correction to an incorrect story posted by AP on Friday stating the crowd booed the President when he sent his good wishes. The crowd, in fact, did NOT boo.
We're still waiting for a retraction from Seth Borenstein, the Knight-Ridder reporter who said that "some in Bush's audience booed," even though there is no indication that Borenstein was at the rally.
The left, though, is not convinced. It has concocted an "alternate" audio of the West Allis rally. You can hear it here. The audio is an obvious fake; they play the first half of the real tape, and then three or four lefties come in yelling "Boo" like extras in a stage production. It is slightly amusing as long as no one takes it seriously.
The next question is whether the dozens or hundreds of media outlets that picked up the false AP story will issue corrections. Please check up on the media in your area to determine whether the AP story was published, and if so, whether it is corrected.
