Will the State Department “do” Israel Next

Cal Thomas worries, as I do, that as soon as the war with Iraq ends, the U.S. State Department will begin another diplomatic offensive against Israel. Thomas notes that the Palestinian leadership has not moved towards compliance with any of the conditions set forth by President Bush as predicates for U.S. support of a Palestinian state — dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, ending incitement against Israel, and electing new leaders not compromised by terror. Unfortunately, though, Thomas is almost surely correct in predicting that “none of this will matter to Arabists in the State Department, who have blind faith that the cause of Middle East turmoil is Israel alone.” Let’s hope that it will matter to President Bush.
