President Bush Addresses Sailors

I saw President Bush give this speech earlier today to sailors at the Mayport Naval Station. In the speech, he said: “I believe when it’s all said and done, free nations will not allow the United Nations to fade into history as an ineffective, irrelevant debating society.” That is the way he has posed the issue ever since his historic speech to the U.N., challenging it to enforce its own resolutions. In a sense, this is another of the President’s no-lose positions. If the U.N. can become a useful and effective organization, fine. If it is hopelessly corrupt, so be it. The loss will not be ours.
