First Mass Surrender

Iraq’s entire 51st Division–about 8,000 soldiers– has surrendered. The surrender was negotiated by the division’s commanding officer and took place near Basra in southern Iraq. The Washington Post describes the 51st as “one of the better equipped and trained in Iraq’s regular army forces and was the key division protecting Basra.”
