Oil for treason

London’s Telegraph carries this highly instructive editorial on the revelation that one of the Labour Party’s most active and visible peace campaigners was on the payroll of Saddam Hussein: “Saddam’s little helper.”
HINDROCKET adds: Trunk, this is one of the most amazing stories I’ve seen in a long time. This paragraph from one of the Iraqi documents is appalling:
“His projects and future plans for the benefit of the country need financial support to become a motive for him to do more work, and because of the sensitivity of getting money directly from Iraq it is necessary to grant him oil contracts and special commercial opportunities to provide him with a financial income under commercial cover without being connected to him directly.”
I guess treason is kind of an old-fashioned concept, but if this isn’t treason, what is? We now know that the most prominent “peace” advocate in England, George Galloway, was in it for the oil money. We also know that the most prominent “peace” advocate in Canada, Jean Chretien, was in it for the oil money (his son-in-law is one of the largest shareholders in Elf, the French oil company that has the principal Iraq concessions.) One can only wonder how many other “antiwar” leaders have been secretly on the take. How about this for a slogan: “No Surrender for Oil.”
