Meanwhile, In Africa…

…today’s headline reads: “Cannibals spread terror in Congo”.
There seems to be a convention according to which events in some places–Israel, for example–have great news value, whereas events in other places–Africa, Chechnya–are greeted with yawns. I’m not sure why this is. But if the world’s media could somehow be persuaded to view events in the Middle East with the same disinterest with which they view the ongoing catastrophes in Africa, it would be a good thing.
