Presidential children

The June 2 issue of the Weekly Standard carries Noemie Emery’s brilliant article “Too much history,” on the multiple foreign policy and security issues simultaneously facing President Bush. Her thesis is that 9/11 and its aftermath combine the kind of challenges faced by President Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor, by President Truman responding to the Soviet Union following the conclusion of World War II, and by President Kennedy after the discovery of Soviet missiles in Cuba. Unfortunately, the article is not available online.
She also has an extremely interesting book review in the current issue of the Weekly Standard. The review intimates some of the personal challenges that President Bush has himself faced and that that must weigh on his mind as the father of two daughters.
