A patrician carpetbagger

In the fourth installment of the Boston Globe’s biographical profile of John Kerry, Kerry goes carpetbagging for a congressional district in which to run, enters his first campaign as a candidate, runs against the war and in favor of rent control, goes to law school and becomes a prosecutor. Although not quite as intriguing as the third installment, it provides additional revelations of ambition, character and judgment: “First campaign ends in defeat.” Tomorrow: the lieutenant governor years. Is this saga beginning to resemble the nineteenth century novels of a certain European country?
