Julian Bond, off the Deep End

The increasingly-bizarre Julian Bond, chairman of the NAACP, gave a speech yesterday in which he launched a hysterical attack on Republicans:
Republicans appeal “to that dark underside of American culture, to that minority of Americans who reject democracy and equality…They preach racial equality and practice racial division…their idea of reparations is to give war criminal Jefferson Davis a pardon…Their idea of equal rights is the American flag and Confederate swastika flying side by side.”
Of course, Bond reminds us, “We are and always have been nonpartisan…but being nonpartisan doesn’t mean being noncritical. And it doesn’t even mean criticizing all parties equally. If the Democrats were doing anything, we’d criticize them too.”
Well, thank goodness the Democrats aren’t doing anything. That provides a ray of hope, I guess, to those who see the world in the insane terms of Julian Bond and his cohorts.
Meanwhile, there are responsible, non-delusional, and even conservative black leaders. Ward Connerly is a prime example. But the Republicans won’t touch Connerly with a stick, so Bond and his ilk have the field more or less to themselves.
