Beams of glory

The Boston Globe’s Sunday Ideas section draws attention to what sounds like a fascinating new biography of Jonathan Edwards, fiery Puritan pastor and protagonist in the drama of the First Great Awakening. Edwards is usually portrayed as a preacher moved by visions of fire-and-brimstone, but his new biographer has taken a look for himself in the Yale archives and begs to differ: “In the name of love.”
