Kerry Announces Candidacy

John Kerry announced today that he is running for President, and, surprisingly, he mentioned his service in Vietnam. Actually, the only surprising thing about the announcement is that Kerry did it in South Carolina, suggesting that he is writing off New Hampshire. Kerry was once considered the overwhelming favorite in New Hampshire, which is adjacent to his home state. But his going to South Carolina may mean that he is hoping to mount a comeback in that state’s primary after Howard Dean wins New Hampshire. Which illustrates the disarray that has afflicted Kerry’s candidacy.
