Overcoming denial

Jay Nordlinger notes this inspirational statement by actor Dennis Hopper: “I drank all the time. I’d reach for a beer first thing in the morning. I’d drink all day. They used to ask me in interviews, ‘What about all the drugs, cocaine, and marijuana?’ And I’d say, ‘Well, I just do them to cover up the fact that I’m an alcoholic.'”
