This commentary from RealClearPolitics does a nice job with the two big stories of today — the L.A. Times’ sliming of Arnold and the assault on Rush. The Arnold story is an object lesson in gross media bias. The Rush story is an object lesson in the need to be careful about accusing the media of bias.
I don’t know where the pain-killer story will lead, but the football story is probably a pyrrhic victory for the thought control police. Rush didn’t need to be an ESPN football commentator — that’s probably why he was so quick to walk away. But when a popular figure takes an undeserved hit for “racism,” it fuels resentment and perhaps makes the real, unpoliced conversations about race a little more bitter. If only the so-called black leadership could show a little more dignity in these cases.
