Al Franken in Minneapolis

Today’s Minneapolis Star Tribune has a good profile of Al Franken: “Franken sense.” I didn’t realize until reading the profile that he and and I are the same age. The hard copy version of the profile runs with a high school yearbook photo that is unfortunately not available online. All I can say is that if you put my yearbook photo next to his, I think we would qualify as “separated at birth.” It’s not a good look, but I must say that it makes me see him in a slightly different light.
The hard copy of the profile also runs with a photo of Franken with tears in his eyes as he talked about his upbrining in St. Louis Park, Minnesota during the interview. Below is the only photo the Strib has made available online. The Strib caption reads: “Al Franken kicked back in his hotel room Wednesday during his visit to the Twin Cities for a series of appearances.”

The profile refers to a column by Ann Coulter rebutting various “lies” attributed to her by Franken. The column is “I guess you’re right: There is no liberal media bias.” The column does a good job of making me see Franken in the light I usually see him in.
Also of interest is a sidebar on Franken’s former writing partner Tom Davis: “Tom Davis still loves Franken like a brother.”
