On the Positive Side...
An American GI shakes hands with an Iraqi boy in Baghdad.

In the photo below, Decorated Crow World War II veteran Barney Old Coyote places Crow Chief Robert Yellowtail’s war bonnet on Pvt. Barry Glenn’s head as part of a ceremony at Billings, Mont. to welcome Glenn home on a two-week leave from Iraq.

Many people do not realize that American Indians are among our most patriotic citizens. Military service has long been considered a rite of passage for young Indian men. At pow-wows, one of the basic Indian social functions, the Stars and Stripes are nearly always presented by a color guard, and adult Indians sport their service medals. I could be wrong, but I don't think the current generation of Indians is being led too far astray by the New York Times, Howard Dean, etc.
