Is success an option in Iraq?

There’s no doubt that, for America, failure in Iraq is not an option. However, Larry Derfner in the Jerusalem Post argues that success may not be an option either. Derfner summarizes our dilemma this way: “America has no way to get out of Iraq without all hell breaking loose. So America digs in, and all hell is breaking loose.” While we would like to think that hell is breaking loose only temporarily, it is difficult, on the current evidence, to disagree with Derfner when he says, “Iraq is getting harder for America, not easier. The guerrillas are getting bolder and more efficient.” So our “slog” in Iraq may not just be long, it may be hellish.
