Truth vs. verisimilitude

The Sunday New York Times carries Jason Epstein’s knowledgeable and entertaining review of the film “Master and Commander.” Epstein respects the craft of the film, but disparages it in the light of the Patrick O’Brian novels on which the film is based: “On the far side of credibility.”
