The nominee they deserve

Hugh Hewitt on Howard Dean’s statement that it doesn’t matter who tries bin Laden — the United States or the International Criminal Court — and the media’s attempt to pretend it didn’t happen. Hugh notes that the issue clearly matter because, of course, the ICC cannot impose the death penalty. Hugh adds that, quite apart from Dean’s apparent ignorance on this score, Dean’s “indifference to the idea of bin Laden being brought to America is a stunning display of his detachment from the war on terror.”
This affair reminds me of when Mike Dukakis insisted during the 1988 presidential debate that he wouldn’t want to impose the death penalty on someone who raped and murdered his wife. That bit of detachment is thought to have hurt Dukakis. Dean’s could hurt him considerably more.
