Times Debunks al Qaeda Link

The New York Times must be afraid that people are learning about the links between Iraq and al Qaeda disclosed in recent news reports. Today, the Times has a long article devoted to reasserting that, because al Qaeda considered Saddam Hussein insufficiently Islamic, there could have been no cooperation between the two. The Times never refers to recent evidence of cooperation on chemical and biological weaponry; the only “news” in the Times article is the claim that Ahmad Khalil Ibrahim Samir al-Ani, a former Iraqi intelligence officer who was captured in July, has denied that he met with Mohammad Atta in Prague prior to the September 11 attacks. What a shock!
The article is apparently based on leaks by CIA officials, and appears to be another battle in the war between the administration and liberal elements in the CIA.
