Plugging Kerry

On the one hand, former president of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad (Mohamad for Kerry — of course!) endorsed Kerry yesterday, sensing that Kerry can be relied on to lean against the powerful “Jewish lobby” that controls American foreign policy: “Former Malaysian leader endorses Kerry.”
On the other hand, Senator John McCain made the morning talk show rounds yesterday to speak on Kerry’s behalf for reasons that are less clear to me: “Kerry not weak on defense, McCain says.” The AP reporter dug up one James Thurber of American University to comment with the kind of understated humor that made his namesake famous: “He doesn’t usually pick up the president’s talking points and amplify them.”
UPDATE: Reader Mike DeZelar adds: Isn’t it obvious? McCain wants to be Kerry’s running mate!”
