Running with Sgt. McNaughton

Staff Sgt. Mike McNaughton lost his leg to a land mine while serving in Afghanistan in January 2003. President Bush visited Sgt. McNaughton while he was recuperating at Walter Reed after one of his eleven surgeries. One of the subjects of common interest they discussed was running, and President Bush extended an invitation to Sgt. McNaughton to come running with him once he was up and about.

Sgt. McNaughton took President Bush up on his invitation last month. We know President Bush is a man of his word, and we know he is loyal to the troops serving under his command. Thanks to Hugh Hewitt for directing us to this account of Sgt. McNaughton’s one-mile jog with the president, and to the photograph above that memorializes it.
