This seems like a shocking development: a lawyer from Portland named Brandon Mayfield has been arrested on a material witness warrant in connection with last month’s bombings in Madrid. Mayfield is shown below:
Mayfield appears to be pretty obscure; I Googled him and came up with nothing. He does, however, have an al Qaeda connection: he represented Jeffrey Battle, one of the “Portland six,” an al Qaeda cell that was convicted and sentenced earlier this year, in a custody dispute.

“I think the reason they are holding him is because he is of the Muslim faith and because he is not super happy with the Bush administration. So if that’s a crime, well you can burn half of us,” Kent Mayfield [Brandon’s brother] said.
