The world-wide crackdown on terrorists continues. Some recent arrests–like those of twelve suspected terrorists in England, including the man believed to head al Qaeda’s organization in that country–are fallout from the huge capture of Mohammed Naeem Noor Khan, and his laptop, in Pakistan.
Other arrests, like those at the mosque in Albany, where the mosque’s imam its founder are charged with trying to obtain shoulder-fired missiles for use in terrorist attacks, are not.
This one, in all probability, has nothing to do with the breakthrough in Pakistan. Still, given the length of time since there has been anything new in the anthrax story, the timing is intriguing:
Federal agents searched several locations in New York and New Jersey on Thursday for evidence in the deadly 2001 anthrax attacks, the FBI said. It was not immediately known what prompted the search, or exactly what investigators were looking for.
FBI spokesman Ed Cogswell said he did not know what sort of locations were being searched, and added that the supporting information for the search warrants was sealed.
“It’s part of the investigative effort. I can’t go beyond that,” Cogswell said.
It’s probably a coincidence, but the timing is curious.
