I am familiar with the work of Hannah Allam from her time as a reporter with the Knight Ridder-owned St. Paul Pioneer Press. Her work with the Pioneer Press was generally not impressive, although she appeared to come into her own on assignment in Iraq in the summer of 2003. In December 2003 she left the Pioneer Press to take a position as the Iraq correspondent for Knight Ridder’s Washington bureau.
Yesterday Allam filed an extremely disturbing dispatch from Baghdad on the resurgence of the Baath Party in Iraq: “Saddam’s Baath Party is back in business.” Laurie Mylroie has drawn our attention to the story via her Iraq Newsletter.
