Our second Daily Standard column is Deacon’s “Inferring the obvious.” In it, Deacon explains how one can reasonably determine whether or not the political bias of Dan Rather et al. was responsible for the fraudulent 60 Minutes II story on President Bush’s Air National Guard service.
I won’t spoil the suspense regarding Deacon’s conclusion; let me confine myself to observing that the column is brilliant. It’s a shame that the so-called Independent Panel didn’t sign Deacon up as a consultant. I think he also might have been able to assist the panel in determining the probable cause of CBS’s 12-day cover-up and associated misconduct revealed in painstaking detail in the panel’s report.
