Wherever green is worn

Voting continues in the Dartmouth trustee election until midnight April 22. We’ve covered the election here because we think it’s an important election both for our alma mater specifically and for higher education generally. Please vote if you’re a Dartmouth alum and haven’t done so yet.
The Student Assembly sent questions to each candidate and the candidates’ responses have now been posted at Dartmouth Future. Petition candidates Peter Robinson and Todd Zywicki have particularly powerful contributions, but their impact is visible throughout. Here’s what Dartlog — the blog of the Dartmouth Review — had to say: “Both Robinson and Zywicki come out swinging in favor of free speech. Robinson, in particular, attacks President James Wright’s statement that ‘Dartmouth has no speech codes.'” Robinson writes:

As a trustee myself, I would refuse to accept any mere form of words like that President Wright offered at Convocation. The administration must instead take action, rescinding all infringements on freedom of speech while promoting a climate in which every man or woman on campus feels genuinely at liberty to speak his or her mind.

Some alumni banded together several weeks ago to put up a site (“Alumni for a Strong Dartmouth”) attacking Robinson and Zywicki in apparent violation of the college’s rules against campaigning. My heart belongs to those coming to the defense of Robinson and Zywicki at Alumni Asking WTF? in response to the attack. In your heart, you know they have a better sense of humor.
