In loco parentis, with a twist

In his Daily Standard column this morning, Paul Mirengoff takes a look at Columbia University’s ad hoc grievance committee report on the university’s Middle East and Asian Language and Culture department: “Conduct unbecoming.” On Paul’s reading, the university is assuming the prerogatives it wielded in days of old when it held itself to stand in loco parentis. In this case, however, the parent is a child abuser who sends out the message that the kids better not tell on daddy.
