The limits of fluidity

In my post yesterday discussing how the Washington Nationals have risen from the ashes of the Montreal Expos, I suggested that baseball seems more fluid than it was 40 years ago. I was mindful, though, that it’s still possible to play sub-500 ball year-after-year, and thought specifically about the Pittsburgh Pirates.
