Karl Zinsmeister is the editor in chief of American Enterprise magzine; he was embedded with the 82nd Airborne during the Iraq war and wrote two excellent books about the experience, Boots On the Ground and Dawn Over Baghdad. In an effort to communicate his profound respect for American fighting men to a broader audience, Karl has written a comic book called Combat Zone. It is very, very good. Combat Zone covers the 82nd Airborne from the beginning of the Iraq war in 2003 to the present. The stories are true; the dialogue is real. The art, by Dan Jurgens, who has drawn Superman, is excellent.
You can buy the book from Amazon here, or, better yet, from the American Enterprise here, for $16. Buy one for your teenage nephew, but be sure to read it yourself. Better yet, buy two.
