Kerry me back to old Virginny
John Behan at the Commonwealth Conservative reports on the lame effort of Democratic gubernatorial candidate to appeal to Virginia's important sportsmen's vote. It was bad enough when Kaine, in this year's equivalent of a "message I care" moment, told reporters that "Having a sportsmen’s organization is a way of saying, ‘Hey look, Kaine is one of us.’" But Kaine went on to boast that he occasionally takes his two sons shooting while visiting the Greenbrier and Homestead resorts -- two upscale vacation establishments that most of "us" don't frequent.
Finally, Kaine turned to state party chairman Dickie Cranwell to buttress his gun-owner rights credentials. But during the call, Cranwell disagreed with Kaine's position on closing a so-called gun show loophole. Kaine apparently is now moving away from that position, saying that he would sign such legislation if it crossed his desk but would not propose it. It seems that, even in a year with virtually no races, a Democrat can tie himself in knots trying to prove he's "one of us."
