Reports indicate that the town of Qaim near Iraq’s Syrian border has been taken over by terrorists from Zarqawi’s al Qaeda group. They are destroying businesses they regard as sinful and murdering government officials and other enemies.
This area has long been a terrorist hotbed and the scene of much fighting, as U.S. soldiers and Marines and government forces have tried to slow the flow of terrorists and equipment from Syria into Iraq. It is not clear to me why the terrorists would deem it a good idea to surface in force like this; one would think it makes them easier to kill. But perhaps they think they need to grab a headline or two and let Iraqis know they are still formidable, despite ongoing losses.
