The legacy of Brad Smith

Those of us who take advantage of the freedom of the Internet to promulgate, disseminate or consume political commentary owe a debt of gratitude to departed Federal Election Commission Chairman Brad Smith, now returned to teaching at Capital University Law School. Smith first raised the alarm about the potential FEC regulation of the Internet this past March. I followed Smith’s lead in writing about the subject in a column for the Daily Standard: “Dream palace of the goo-goos.” Today Daniel Glover writes:

Thought your readers might be interested in this reprint of a National Journal article I wrote. I reprinted it at Beltway Blogroll so bloggers who rallied as a result of Smith’s interview earlier this year could access the article for free. Here is a direct link: “Brad Smith’s legacy at the FEC.”

Those interested can stay up to speed on this important subject with several specialist blogs and expert bloggers, such as Smith’s former FEC staff attorney (and my friend) Allison Hayward at Skeptic’s Eye, quoted in Glover’s column.
