Israel Says Iran Shipping Rockets to Hizbollah

The Jerusalem Post reported today that, according to Jeremy Issacharoff, the new deputy Israeli ambassador to Washington, Iran is arming Hizbollah with rockets capable of striking Israel:

Iran has supplied Hezbullah with more than 10,000 short-range rockets and most of the weapons are deployed in southern Lebanon within reach of Israel, an Israeli diplomat said Thursday.

Besides backing Hezbullah, a Lebanese group that has fought a cross-border conflict with Israel, Iran is supporting Palestinian terror groups, the Israeli diplomat said.

And he said Israel takes seriously a recent call by Iranian Prime Minister Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that Israel be “wiped off the map.”

Well, yes, ten thousand rockets would certainly be consistent with that intention.

That Iran is arming Hizbollah is, of course, nothing new; but the magnitude of this effort, coming on the heels of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s proclamation of Israel’s doom, is certainly worrisome.
