Man Shot on Airplane in Miami; May have Had Bomb

A federal air marshal reportedly shot and killed a passenger on a jetway in Miami earlier today. Homeland Security officials say that the man had a bomb in his carry-on luggage. Details are still fragmentary, and reports are somewhat conflicting. Given that the flight originated in Medellin, Colombia, the incident may have involved drugs rather than Islamic terrorism.

UPDATE: CNN has more. Apparently the passenger, a man named Rigoberto Alpizar, claimed to have a bomb in his bag, but didn’t. Sounds like a case of mental disturbance.
