Reader Donald Morrissey recommends the Foreign Affairs essay by former Wisconsin Congressman and Nixon administration Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird: “Iraq: Learning the lessons of Vietnam.” For the past week I’ve been carrying around Frederick Kagan’s excellent essay on the subject and reading it as I could.
