On the waterfront
Sometimes it helps to have smart friends thinking through the difficult issues. At the New York Sun, the editors contribute to understanding some of the noise related to the ports deal and why it should be filtered out: "On the waterfront." At Big Lizards, Dafydd ab Hugh formulates "A modest proposal." Our friend Michelle Malkin has been sounding an alarm over the ports deal, but she observes an epidemic of hypocrisy among certain opponents of the deal in "They are all profilers now."
On the other hand, I don't know how much thought to devote to this issue. The ports deal seems destined to fail, and to fail sooner rather than later. The New York Post editorial declares "Dubya jeopardy." The Washington Times's Bill Gertz reports "Security fears about infiltration by terrorists." And I should think that Jimmy Carter's endorsement is the kiss of death.
