Manliness not gender neutral

Professor Harvey Mansfield expounds on the theme of manliness to which his new book is devoted in the podcast -- accessible here -- of Peter Schramm's interview with him. Peter is the proprietor of No Left Turns, where he comments on the interview:
I love Mansfield’s book Manliness. It is a tough and just assertion of manliness in a world that is quite confused. We had a brief conversation today, or, maybe better put, two real-men asserted things to one another (oh, but I flatter myself!). It’s out as a podcast on You Americans. Enjoy it and go buy the book. By the way, somebody with a lot of money should send a copy of the book not only to Larry Summers, but one to each member of the Harvard Corporation.Peter concludes the interview, telling Mansfield (and laughing): "I happen to agree with it and therefore it's true."
JOHN adds: Well, Scott is definitely the manly one of this group. But that may be damning with faint praise.
