Shapes of things

It appears that none of the three network news shows mentioned Justice Ginsburg’s nap during the oral argument of the Texas redistricting case earlier this week. The folks at Fox’s Special Report with Brit Hume noted it and aired the graphic below.

Newsbusters asks us to “pretend for a moment that this had happened to a conservative member of the Supreme Court.” I don’t think it takes too much imagination to come up with the correct answer to that question.
American Enterprise Institute research fellow John Fortier provides a good overview of the issues in the redistricting case in “The shape of things.” Fans of the music of the ’60s may recall the Yardbirds headbanging 1966 hit “Shapes of Things” with the glorious Jeff Beck guitar solo. Beck returned to cover “Shapes” on his 1968 solo debut “Truth,” with Rod Stewart on vocals:

The shapes of things before my eyes
Just teach me to despise.
Will time make men more wise?

I think we also know the correct answer to that question.
