But Fukuyama does not substantiate his self-important claim about the response to his conversion. The only hell he claims to have received from conservatives is the criticism of Charles Krauthammer. But Krauthammer’s focus wasn’t on the conversion; he was unhappy with Fukuyama’s misrepresentation of statements Krauthammer made in a speech, something that Fukuyama (in praising his own intellectual honesty) fails to mention. As Krauthammer put it, Fukuyama “has every right to change his mind at his convenience. He has no right to change what I said.”
