Nether netherland

Cliff May examines the claim by the New York Times that the Bush administration is to blame for the suicides at Gitmo because it built “a netherworld of despair beyond the laws of civilized nations, where men were to be held without any hope of decent treatment, impartial justice or, in so many cases, even eventual release.” Cliff concludes, as I did, that this view is rubbish that the Times promulgates either because its editors don’t believe this is a real war or “think it is a matter of indifference which side wins.”
