Breaking news, under the headline “Previously unknown militant to replace slain al-Qaida in Iraq leader al-Zarqawi”:
Al-Qaida in Iraq announced in a web statement posted Monday that a previously unknown militant named Abu Hamza al-Muhajer will succeed its slain leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
The name al-Muhajer, Arabic for “immigrant,” suggested he was not Iraqi.
OK, that was an exaggeration. They’re not all dead. Quite a few have been captured.
