It’s nice to see that bad journalism isn’t only the province of American papers like the New York Times and Washington Post. Today, the Jerusalem Post got into the act with a lengthy expression of puzzlement over the fact that the United States government is “not playing a major role in trying to solve a dire regional crisis.” The U.S., the reporter explains, has little if any communication with Syria and virtually no influence with Hezbollah.
Well, yeah, that’s true. The only player in the current crisis over whom we have any significant influence is Israel. And to say that we haven’t leaped into the breach to play a major diplomatic role in the current conflict, is merely to say that, for once, we aren’t leaning on Israel to give away the store.
And that, as Martha Stewart would say, is a good thing.
