A landmark occasion

Everton took down cross-park rivals Liverpool today 3-0. Tim Cahill scored the first and Andy Johnson the next two.

Cahill became the first Evertonian since 1902 to score in three straight derbies (so there isn’t “only one Tim Cahill” after all). This the first time we’ve scored three against the Red Shite since 1966 (they did it twice to us last year). 1909 was the last time we won a derby by three goals at home. Our victory ended a 17-game unbeaten streak by Liverpool.

In truth, Liverpool dominated play in the first half — it was a case of “two chances, two goals” for us. We used a very defensive formation, especially considering that we were at home. But it worked out beautifully, and with Andy Johnson up front maybe we can play defensively and still score consistently.
