NRO has posted my review of Jim Geraghty’s Voting to Kill that ran in National Review last month: “Still a majority?” Jim is NRO’s TKS reporter; last month NRO also posted Kathryn Jean Lopez’s interview with Jim about the book here. Jim responds to my review here and provides an update here.
I read and enjoyed a pre-publication review copy of Jim’s book in July and wrote the review in August. I found Jim’s book heartening, but my forebodings about Republican prospects are implicit in the review. Jim’s thesis is that 9/11 altered the American electoral psyche in a manner that is favorable to Republicans; I am afraid that it will take another 9/11 to affect a critical mass of the electorate.
