Sen. Robert Menendez is running one in New Jersey (no surprise, though — Menendez is under investigation for criminal behavior). Denying an audience member’s charge that he is putting party loyalty ahead of a good candidate, Menendez told a Jewish group that Sen. Joe Lieberman is a “tremendous Senator” and that he hopes Lieberman “returns” to the Senate. Once safely away from the synagogue where he had spoken, however, Menendez said that he is not endorsing Lieberman and is “officially” supporting his opponent, Ned Lamont. In other words, Menendez is putting party loyalty ahead of a good candidate, precisely the charge he testily denied when courting Jewish voters.
