How to harry a millionaire

I believe that Mark Steyn was a long-time writer for newspapers owned by Conrad Black, who now faces criminal charges of having “looted” the parent company of several of the newspapers, Hollinger International. The charges are brought by the United States Attorney’s office in Chicago, where Patrick Fitzgeral presides. Presumably he’ll have a verdict in the Libby case by the time the Black trial is scheduled to commence on March 14.
In an eye-opening article for Macleans, Steyn stands up for Black and his wife, Barbara Amiel. He also strongly suggests that former SEC head and Hollinger corporate “adviser” Richard Breeden is doing a little looting of his own. The article concludes:

Conrad and Barbara Black are easy targets — an orotund peer of the realm and his sinister Zionist trophy clothes horse. But they were good for readers, good for newspapers, and better for capitalism than a regime of arbitrary regulatory usurpation. What has happened to Hollinger is a disgrace. I hope Conrad Black is acquitted in Chicago. But there is much more at stake here than the fate of one man.

The article is, I think it would be fair to say, contrarian. Via Lucianne.
