Eyes on Hanover

The lead editorial in the current issue of The New Criterion is on the Dartmouth trustee election in which voting by alumni runs from April 1 to May 15. We think that independent petition candidate Professor Stephen Smith (’88) of the University of Virginia Law School would make a special contribution to the Dartmouth board. The editors of TNC put the election in the context of the events of the past few years on campus and take some good quotes from Steve’s website. The editors conclude:

We will be following the course of Mr. Smith s campaign closely. We have no doubt that the Dartmouth administration will continue its campaign of innuendo and misrepresentation in an effort to defeat a man who ostentatiously embodies the principles of independent-thinking that Dartmouth honors in its rhetoric but abuses in practice.
