al-Masri Killed?

It was reported in Iraq today that the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, had been killed in a shootout. There has been no confirmation, however, from either Iraqi or American military sources. The circumstances of the encounter are murky; the attack has variously been attributed to a rival insurgent group, another al Qaeda group, and to local tribesmen. In any event, no one seems to be getting very excited, as the organization has seemed to bounce back from the demise of past leaders, including Zarqawi.
