When Bill Frist saved David Petraeus
I went over to Bill Frist's Volpac blog to check out his reaction to last night's dog-and-pony show. Of far greater interest is Senator Frist's immediately preceding post on the role he played in 1991 as General Petraeus's lifesaver when General Petraeus sustained an M16 gunshot wound in the chest. It's a remarkable story -- please check it out. Senator Frist tells the story well, with his usual modesty, and concludes "on a related note":
I believe Gen. Petraeus’s dedication to success in Iraq should be matched by Congress. That’s why it’s unfortunate the Democrats’ leadership insisted upon a spending bill that established artificial timelines for withdrawing our troops.Rich Lowry catches up with General Petraeus today in "Give it time."The President was right to veto the bill because mandating withdrawal dates will only strengthen our enemy, and several bloggers have launched a new Internet campaign (We Win, They Lose) to make that point clear.
Ronald Reagan's quote “We Win. They lose.” expressed our country’s determination to defeat the Soviet Union in the Cold War – the same determination we must maintain to achieve success in Iraq.
I encourage you to visit We Win, They Lose, sign their petition and then tell your friends, family members and co-workers about it. Also, continue posting your thoughts regarding the War on Terror on my blog. Together we can make clear to congressional Democrats that surrender is not a solution.
